Sad little gingerbread house!

This year we had a small neighborhood family night of decorating gingerbread houses! I was so excited to show off my amazing decorating skills, on our gingerbread creation! It was not to be however, before I even got the gingerbread out of the box (yes it was a kit, I don't bake gingerbread) I broke to off the two main pieces! I proceed to use the glue-like icing, that I whipped up earlier, to glue them together! As Jackson and I are waiting for those pieces to set, we start to glue the rest of the house, well as much of it as we could without those pieces! I take the rest of the pieces and place them in their spots, and without warning my house completly collapses! So of course I give up, but in comes Danny who is sure that he can fix it..and after about a pound of icing, and Jackson's oodles of candy this is what we end up with...

The next batch of icing was a little too runny and Dan decide to just dump it on top of the house like a winter storm, had hit it, and like a winter storm, the house started to fold underneath it..

Let's just say that our neighbors, had better results with theirs!

I mean look at the concentration that went into this!!!
Dr. Evil and his finished product

The sillito's and their Chateua, this one took home the first place prize, I mean come on they made it out of graham crackers. A masterpiece...

For some reason I don't have a completly finished pictures of the Chateau, it was quite amazing with the candy on it...sorry.

Then Jenkins masterpiece, which I might add also collapsed at one point, but Jen being more diligent that I, was able to keep it all together!

You are all invited next year, we will do it at the Jenkins house...sound good?

Um I can't believe we werent invited. No I am just kidding I am sad we couldn't be there to witness the downfall of the Stott gingerbread house. Darn Brett and his soccer games! Also I am curious about the secret to get more than 5 pictures under one post. Could you please enlighten me oh smart blog girl.

PS thanks for being the only person so far to share any traditions on my blog. I love the idea about the notes in the stockings. I might steal that one.

What a fun night! I love how Dan is pouring the icing on top of your gingerbread house. I also like the little gum drop path leading to the Jenkins house. I love making gingerbread houses even though I seem to eat more candy than ends up on the house. Oh well, that's part of the fun, right?

Oh, I really wish you had gotten a picture of the caved in mess that was made of your house. That picture does not do it justice. I've never seen store-bought gingerbread soften and crumble like that. And here I thought that stuff was undestructible.
I think I got ripped off not getting that first prize lasagna. Ok, fine. The graham cracker chateau was much more impressive, but how can you compete with that? I mean really... it's almost unfair. I think Baylen must be taking "Graham Cracker House Decor 101" at Roberts behind our backs.
Oh, and party at our house next year?... Sure. I'll get the invitations started. You can never be too prepared for these things.

This looks like it was a lot of fun! We are definitely in for some good competition next year! Although, it sounds like if we can just make something that remains standing we'll have a good chance. :) Actually, it looked there were some great gingerbread houses there! I love the snowed-in look. :)
